  • Trust warns patients about malicious ‘cancer’ emails

Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has received information regarding malicious emails that are being sent to members of the public, telling them that they may have cancer.

The message appears to be from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), and carries the subject line: ‘Important blood analysis result.’

Seeming to come from an official NICE email address, it advises the recipient that their white blood cell count was found to be low after a recent blood test, and that they should visit their GP immediately as cancer is suspected.’

John Randall, Medical Director said: “I would like to reassure people that the Trust has a strict policy of contacting patients by phone or arranging for a face to face discussion in such matters, certainly not by email.”
